Inscriptions on title page in red and black. Abrasions of binding, cracks in leather at spine, pages with staining and browning, copperplate pages in good condition. A comprehensive collection of popular mythological scenes taken from the legends of the ancient Greeks and Romans (Among others: Atlas holding the world; Titans; part of the works of Hercules; Pygmalion; Giants; the soothsaying of Cassandra). The folio-sized copperplate engravings were made according to the works of Bernard Picart (1673-1733), a prominent French engraver, illustrator and book illustrator. Each panel is accompanied by cards with textual descriptions, the contents of which are myths, legends and stories.
