A novel set in the reality of occupied Warsaw, covering the period from the ghetto uprising (April 1943) to the fall of the Warsaw Uprising (November 1944). The main character is a Jewish doctor, Dr. Rozenzweig, who is given a mission to transfer secret materials documenting life in the ghetto to the Aryan side. Together with other characters, he becomes embroiled in dramatic events that show both the heroism and moral decay of people during the war. The book touches on the subject of responsibility, memory and the world's indifference to the tragedy of the Jews, and shows the destroyed Warsaw as a backdrop to the struggle to save the truth.
