"One searches in vain for information about these photographs in studies devoted to socialist realist art. Similarly, there is no mention of them in texts treating Polish photojournalism. Seventeen booklets, which were published in 1950-1955 as part of the CRZZ [Central Council of Trade Unions] Photojournalism Library in the series People of the 6-Year Plan (volumes 1-4 and 6-8 came out as the CRZZ Photojournalism Library), found their way into a different readership. The photographs printed in them, instead of hanging in galleries or filling the spreads of high-circulation newspapers, were stuck in the bookcases of industrial plants, from where they were not pulled out very often.
The author of the photographs for the entire series was Marek Holzman, the texts were written by Olgierd Budrewicz. Both collaborated with the CRZZ Trade Union Publishing House on other publications as well. Holzman's photo essays were printed in the monthly magazine "Świetlica," while Budrewicz wrote articles for the magazine and edited union brochures.
