In December 1790, three political activists Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, Jozef Weyssenhof and Tadeusz Antoni Mostowski announced the creation of a new news and political newspaper. The new magazine was to come out on the initiative of Lithuanian Grand Marshal Ignacy Potocki. The first issue of the newspaper appeared on January 1, 1791. It was published twice a week. The content of the newspaper mainly included information on the Sejm sessions. The maximum circulation of the paper was 2,000 pieces. After the hagglers came to power the Gazeta was liquidated.
