MROŻEK Slawomir - Poland in images. Cracow 1957 Artistic and Graphic Publishing House. 16 podł. p. 206. pamphlet. WAG Picture Library, vol. 3.
Distinct folds of back cover and last blank page, otherwise good condition. A collection of satirical drawings previously published in "Przekrój". Extremely accurate picture of Poles with their ambitions, vices, pride. The series was created in the 1950s, has remained relevant to this day, unfortunately.
"In what [Mrozek] draws, the most significant thing is the intention of the overall picture, the general plan to revise the Poles' perceptions of themselves. Of lesser importance are specific demystifications, destructions of one stereotype or another, although it is on these that the cartoonist focuses most of his attention [...]. Mrozek is a drawing intellectual who is satisfied with recognizing a certain state of affairs [...]. In book form, the series [...] differs markedly from the magazine version. This applies both to the individual drawings, which were redrawn by Mrożek, and to the layout of the whole [...]. While working on it [the book], Mrożek put the old drawings in order. He also added many new ones. And he put both together into a new whole [...]. Thus, in the book version, 'Poland in Pictures' gained the character of a real guide to Poland and its history" (S. Rosiek in "Publishing Note" to the second volume of S. Mrożek's "Collected Drawings", Gd. 1998).
