Krzysztof Celestyn Mrongowiusz (1764-1855) - Polish Evangelical clergyman, preacher, teacher, linguist and national activist. He was born in Olsztynek, and spent most of his life in Gdansk, where he worked to defend the Polish language in schools and churches under the Prussian partition. He was the author of textbooks, dictionaries and linguistic treatises, and promoted correct Polish among the people of Pomerania. Known for his translations of religious works and grammatical studies. His activities contributed to the preservation of Polish identity in Prussia. He died in Gdansk, leaving behind valuable scientific and patriotic achievements. The city of Mragowo was named in his honor.
