Money of Poland Reborn 1938
Published on the basis of an unpublished manuscript by J. Guthke, this is a pre-war numismatic handbook covering circulating, commemorative and proof coins. It was created with the cooperation of Konrad Berezowski - Vice President of the Numismatic Society of Warsaw, Wladyslaw Terlecki - Custodian of the Numismatic Cabinet of the Mint of Poland, the Publisher of "Numismatic and Archaeological News" and the State Mint. The more than 400-page monograph, which the author created in exile in Manchurian Harbin, was to honor the twentieth anniversary of Poland's rebirth.
The catalog includes descriptions of the coins with photos, type of metal, weight, dimensions and introduces their authors. Issues from individual vintages are shown on collective tables.
An element of the catalog are numerous communications of the Numismatic Cabinet of the State Mint: Gold coins, Project for minting a 10-gold coin for the jubilee of the relief of Vienna, 10-gold clips with pop. Sobieski and Traugutt, Commemorative clip with pop. Marshal Pilsudski, Coins withdrawn from circulation, Exhausted M.P. proof and commemorative coins, Commemorative coins, minted with polished stamp, New coin design, Silver clips, stamped by the State Mint, Exhausted proof coins.
The work also contains a number of thematic articles and source documents, including: Report on the organization and activities of the State Mint in 1924-1926, Report on the organization and activities of the State Mint in 1927-1930, Report on the organization and activities of the State Mint in 1930-34, Report on the activities of the Numismatic Museum, tables indicating the numbers and values of coins minted at the State Mint, at foreign mints and withdrawn from circulation, laws and regulations on monetary circulation.
The book was published in an elaborate hard sewn and glued leather binding with embossing and gilding. An impressive publication. A bible for collectors of the Second Republic.
