Bogdan Czaykowski, editor of the Polish edition of the journal Modern Poetry in Translation,(born February 10, 1932 in Rowne, Volhynia, died. August 16, 2007 in Vancouver) one of the most interesting Polish poets of the 20th century with a rich, dramatic biography, the important episodes of which were: his childhood spent in the Borderlands, the years of exile with his family deep into Russia (1940-1942), there the arrest and death of his father and later, during the wandering behind the Anders Army, also of his younger brother - Jerzy, his several-year stay with his mother in Polish orphanages in India (1942-1948), the years of education and study in Great Britain and Ireland, his literary debut, co-founding the young-literary circle in London (editing magazines: "Academic Life", "Merkuriusz Polski", "Kontynenty") (1948-1962); in 1962, moving with his family to the west coast of Canada, many years of work as an academic lecturer at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, scientific, teaching, social activities, popularizing Polish culture in the Anglo-Saxon circle.
The publication includes translations of such poets as: Halina Poswiatowska, Zbigniew Herbert, Wieslawa Szymborska, Miron Bialoszeski, , Tadeusz Gajcy, Andrzej Bursa, Jerzy Harasymowicz, Rafal Wojaczek, Krzysztof Kamil Baczynski and others.
