Unfinished work written by Maurycy Mochnacki, consisting of two volumes and constituting a historical account of the events surrounding the November Uprising. It was published in 1834 in Paris. It was reprinted several times, including in 1850 and 1863.
The work contains a characterization of the situation of Poland before the Russian partition and Europe before the outbreak of the uprising, as well as a description of the course of action leading to the formation of the National Government. Mochnacki defends the opinion proclaiming the necessity of an independence struggle to regain sovereignty. He expresses the belief that it should be fought on the basis of the social masses, however, in the situation of Poland, whose enemy was subordinated to the Tsar, and the social structure of the country under the partitions - backward in relation to the rest of Europe, this struggle will have the character of a military dictatorship, indifferent to political and social conditions. He considers the outbreak of insurrectionary struggles as appropriate, while he sees its failure in the underdevelopment on the part of the leaders and the lack of clear social support. After its publication, Mochnacki's work faced harsh criticism from the émigré community in Paris. They objected mainly to the strong subjectivism, as well as to the theses put forward, which were assumed to be wrong or contradictory.
