First Polish edition!
A series of lectures by Adam Mickiewicz (1798-1855) on Slavic literature at the Collège de France in Paris, delivered in French in 1840-1844 four annual courses. They mark the beginning of a new stage in Mickiewicz's biography - no longer a poet, but a lecturer, historian and literary critic political activist, publicist, and Towiańczyk. The lectures were written down (stenographed) by the listeners and published in several editions under different titles and in French, Polish and German while Mickiewicz was still alive. The issues discussed in the lectures, however, largely go beyond the framework of literary subjects - they concern issues of history, sociology, politics, religion, philosophy.Taking over the chair of Slavic literatures and languages in December 1840 at the Collège
de France in accordance with the proposal of the French government, Mickiewicz considered in the category of professorial duty - as a service to the cause of Poland, France and the Slavs (Ludmiła Siryk, Literatura słowiańska w prelekcjach paryskich Adam Mickiewicza).
