One of the earliest editions of Adam Mickiewicz's works in German; no more volumes of this edition appeared. Extensive selection of poetic works includes, among others, two large prefaces by A. Mickiewicz, Ballads and Romances, Farys, poems, sonnets (including Crimean Sonnets) ; see Sliwinska (p. 128, item 3). Translator's afterword dated. Stettin 1836, identically dated engraving by Adolph Menzel (1815-1905), prominent German. painter and graphic artist born in Breslau, portrait of the poet also probably made by his hand according to the famous youthful image of A. Mickiewicz painted by Walenty Wańkowicz. Rubbing of the covers, browning of parts of the pages, overall good condition. Prow.: Ex libris Adelle Ott, and signature on front pastedown. Very scarce.
