The work is a critical dissection of Adam Mickiewicz's famous "Books of the Polish Nation and Pilgrimage" by Friedrich Wilhelm Carové (1789-1852), a German philosopher and publicist.

In addition to a dissection of the "Books of the Nation..." the author also devoted chapters to, among other things, the situation of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland.
