The publication presents the development of long-term mortgage credit, provided by institutions specially established for such activities, such as land credit societies and municipal credit societies, as well as mortgage banks and state-owned banks. The history of the activities of these entities is described in connection with the people who shaped their activities and illustrated with the mortgage bonds they issued and, in the case of banks, also with their shares.
Part of the study is devoted to the headquarters of these institutions. These are often now architectural gems. These objects are presented in illustrations, as far as possible from the era. Their architectural styles are described and the profiles of the architects are introduced. The publication covers the period from the end of the 18th century to the present day, and territorially - the areas of the three partitions, interwar and modern Poland. Some of the listed entities were not necessarily Polish in character, but their area of activity coincides with the current borders of our country, and some - vice versa, were definitely Polish, but the area of their activity today is outside the borders of Poland.
