[MANUSCRIPT] Unique album by Rev. Jan Sieminski [1836-1920] with entries of prominent Poles. Dozens of entries and autographs from 1880 to 1918. Drawing by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz ! UNIQUE

Album owned by Rev. Jan Siemieński [1836 - 1920]. In the album several dozen manuscript entries and autographs of famous Poles: writers, publicists, socialists, soldiers, priests. Next to some entries, handwritten drawings [e.g., Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz] or musical notations [Wladyslaw Zelenski]. The entries begin in 1880 and appear on subsequent pages until 1918. The album ends with autographs of members of Father Jan Siemieński's family, including two soldiers of the 4th Legion Infantry Regiment. The entries were made on various occasions: travels, Christmas, religious celebrations, chance meetings, f. 15 x 20.5cm, pp. nlb. 94 [with entries] and over 100 blank pages, very good condition, all bound "Anthology of Polish Poets", a VERY RARE collection of entries and autographs of famous Poles! UNIQUE !!!

Of the autographs that we were able to decipher in the album are [according to the order of entries] :

1. Edward Odyniec [1804-1885] Polish romantic and neo-classical poet, diarist, translator, Filaret, entry dated 25.III.1880, Krakow

2. entry for the celebration of the anniversary of the death of Adam Mickiewicz, 1881.

3. Lucjan Siemieński [1807-1877] Polish poet, writer, publicist, participant in the November Uprising, professor at the Jagiellonian University, member of the Academy of Learning, entry dated 1.8.1855.

4. Konstanty Przeździecki [1846-1897] landowner, amateur and patron of the arts, founder of the Ambulance Service in Warsaw, entry dated 23.3.1888r.

5. Władysław Bełza - two entries 1880 and 1887. - [1847-1913] Polish neo-Romantic poet, praiser of Polishness, publicist, animator of cultural and press life, co-founder of the Polish educational organization Macierz Szkolna, entries dated April 12, 1880 Lvov and May 16, 1888. Lviv

6. Włodzimierz Zagórski a.k.a. "Chochlik" [1834-1902] Polish writer, popular satirist, prose writer, publicist, officer in the Austrian army, entry is an extensive "any translation from Fr. Coppec - The Blessing ",

7. Julian Horain [1821-1883] Polish publicist and correspondent of, among others, "Tygodnik Ilustrowany", entry dated February 24, 1882, Lvov

8. priest Karol Turzanski, canon of the Metropolis of Lviv,

9. doctor Ludwik Jurkowskicustodian of the Lviv Metropolis

10. J. Reyowa of Przecław, entry dated 6.9.1883r.

11. extensive entry constituting a transcription of "Carol for the New Year 1827" autographed by Stanislaw Siemieński, entry dated January 18, 1884.

13. doctor Kazimierz Szwykowski [1814-1899].

14. Władysław Mickiewicz [1838-1926] eldest son and second child of Adam Mickiewicz and Cecylia née Szymanowska, Polish bookseller, librarian, publicist and emigration activist. In 1864, he founded the then-famous Luxemburg Bookstore, designed to promote Polish and Polish works in French and the native language. Its main venture became the establishment of the Polish People's Library, a model for subsequent Polish publications in exile. In 1903 he founded the Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Paris, located in the building of the Polish Library on Saint Louis Island. Entry dated 5.9.1884

15. Karol, a compatriot from the Vistula, entry dated Paris 3.7.1885.

16. Ignacy Domeyko [1802-1889] Polish geologist, mining engineer, explorer of South America, prototype of Zegota from the third part of A.Mickiewicz's Dziady [ Forefathers' Eve], entry dated November 9, 1884, Paris

18. doctor Henryk Jordan [1842-1907] Polish physician, social activist, pioneer of physical education in Poland. Known mainly for establishing play gardens for children, so called Jordan gardens, entry dated 17.9.1903.

20. Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz [1885-1939] , artistic pseudonym 'Witkacy', Polish writer, painter, philosopher, playwright, and photographer.

21. Marian Zdziechowski [1861-1938] Polish historian of ideas and literature, philologist, philosopher, literary critic and publicist, rector of Stefan Batory University in Vilnius, entry dated 11.XII.1903.

22. Wladyslaw Zelenski [1837-1921] Polish composer, pedagogue, organizer of musical life, the most outstanding - after Stanislaw Moniuszko - composer of operas and songs, entry with the score of the solemn mass 'Mickiewiczowska', dated July 21, 1904.

23. Kazimierz Tetmajer [1865-1940] Polish poet, novelist, novelist, representative of Young Poland, entry dated 12.VIII. 1904r.

24. Henryk Biegeleisen [1855-1934] Polish ethnographer and historian of Polish literature, author of valuable ethnographic works, entry dated Zakopane 1904r.

25 Wladyslaw Bandurski [1863-1932] auxiliary bishop of the Lviv and Vilna archdiocese, honorary chaplain of the Polish Legions, chief chaplain of the Army of Central Lithuania, chairman of the Board of the Vilna Branch of the Polish Scouting Association, knight of the Order of Virtuti Militari, entry dated 27.2.1916.
