A classic monograph by Bronislaw Malinowski, first published in 1929. It was the second in a series of three books devoted to the inhabitants of the Trobriand Islands (the other two being Argonauts of the Western Pacific and Coral Gardens and Their Magic). The book has been considered one of the most important anthropological works since its publication. In this work Malinowski described in detail the customs of the Trobriand people, their views and habits.
The first edition was published by G. Routledge & Sons in 1929. Malinowski dedicated the book to his friend Tadeusz Szymberski. The work was preceded by a foreword by Havelock Ellis. The work, translated by Andrzej Waligórski and Jozef Chałasinski, was first published in Poland in 1938.
