The second publication of the Tyszkiewicz publishing house, hand-folded by the author in the font "Nicolas Cochin" and rebound in the author's own embossing plant on unmarked white paper. Contains 12 full-page woodcuts , depicting the monuments of Florence , by the prominent graphic artist of the interwar period Tadeusz Cieślewski son (1895-1944). Illustrations embossed on handmade fabrian velin, watermarked "Umbria". This is the graphic artist's first work after graduation, prepared by him for almost 2 years. While still at the Warsaw Academy, Cieślewski conceived the intention to create a series of "Old Cities," documenting the architectural monuments of old cities. Graphics devoted to Florence were created during the artist's stay in Italy, and the book is the result of his friendship with the Tyszkiewicz family and their love of monuments and printing (the work opens with a dedication by the artists to his wives - Maryla and Zofia - "faithful companions, inspirers"). The layout of the book, the linocuts of the coverings, modeled on the mosaics of the Florentine baptistery, and the woodcuts of the title pages were designed by Maryla Tyszkiewiczowa (1901-1969), wife and long-time collaborator of S. F. Tyszkiewicz. The book, created without a previous manuscript, directly at the chestpieces, is devoted to the history of Florence, the beloved city of the Tyszkiewicz family, based on lectures by Professor Nikola Ottokar. Luxurious publisher's binding made by Samuel Ty szkiewicz : natural parchment, five-panel spine, gold embossed Florentine lily in the mirror face, both covers closed with a single gold line, upper edge of pages stained, the rest uncut. Traces of flooding on pages with woodcuts (no harm to graphics), otherwise good condition. Lit. by M. Szypulski, Magister Samuel Typographus, Krakow 2004, pp. 77-80, 162, item 2.
