From the introduction by Maria Dabrowska: "In general, one does not spread before the world the image of ruins unless they are remnants of such great art, culture and civilization as, for example, Greek or Roman ruins. But in Bronislaw Linke's fourteen charts, titled "Kamienie krzyczą" and depicting the ruins of Warsaw, the issue at stake is of the same importance, though of a different kind. Here we are dealing with two extraordinary events: the almost complete demolition of the city and the artistic expression given to this destruction by the grim inspiration of an exceptional artist. (...) By demonstrating the ruins of Warsaw, we perhaps warn not only of what may befall us, but also of what we ourselves, unfortunately, are also perfectly capable of committing. Bronislaw Linke shows us the ruins of Warsaw through a work of difficult and shocking art in a way that is far from what we call aesthetic delectation. Or, at any rate, far from what leads by an accessible and simple path to aesthetic delectation."
