The series "Kamienie krzyczą", is a terrifying vision of the ruins of Warsaw. "In 1959 its reproductions were published in an album, with an introduction by Maria Dabrowska. The creation of the series was preceded by the artist's numerous walks around the destroyed capital, with sketchbook and camera in hand. Also important to him were conversations with Varsovians who survived the war. Based on these testimonies and experiences, he created a metaphorical vision of the death of the city. The people appearing in the paintings only complete the meanings of the catastrophic landscape. A couple in a shelter, a girl looking up at the sky or a kneeling human figure are not the main subject of the depictions. That role is played by the animated, monumental ruins, which co-sensate but also interact with the people" [Culture.co.uk].
