The last comprehensive story of the adventures of Ijon Tiche.
The thing takes place in the not-too-distant future, when Earth's superpowers have decided to send their arsenals and factories of new weapons to the Moon to evolve there on their own, leaving Earth in a state of peace and prosperity. Fear of what was born on the Moon from these arsenals, however, pushes international organizations to send Ijon Tiche to the Moon on a super-secret mission to find out what went wrong on the deserted globe. The protagonist there happens to have a peculiar accident: the dissection of the great conjunctiva connecting the cerebral hemispheres, which causes him to become "mentally split" himself to himself and those around him an intriguing mystery, and the bearer of a secret of which he is unaware, but on which all Earth's intelligence agencies are on the prowl.
A fascinating book both for its sensational plot and its intellectual content and predictions about the future of man.
