Reflections on Polish history by the eminent scholar Joachim Lelewel (1786-1861). This Polish historian, Slavist, biographer and polyglot was the president of the Patriotic Society, founded during the November Uprising - a radical faction of the insurgent camp seeking to introduce fundamental social reforms. He was a member of the Administrative Council headed by Adam Czartoryski.
He is credited with organizing a patriotic demonstration on January 25, 1831, in honor of the Decabrists. As a deputy from the Zhelechow district of Podlasie province to the insurgent parliament, he signed the act of dethroning Nicholas I Romanov on January 25, 1831. He is probably the author of the slogan For our freedom and yours, which appeared on the insurgent banners.
