The codex was founded by the Wroclaw patrician Antoni Hornig in the middle of the 15th century. Its content refers to two earlier manuscripts - directly to the work made for Prince Rupert of Legnica in 1380 and indirectly to the even earlier "Lubin Codex" of 1353. The codex consists of 120 parchment pages in folio format plus two attached during binding (a full-page miniature with a crucifixion scene and also a full-page depiction of the Hornig coat of arms, interestingly not on parchment but on paper - probably this card was added during the second half of the 16th century when the codex was re-bound). In addition to the mentioned miniatures, the codex is decorated with 60 half-page pen drawings depicting scenes from the legend. The original of the codex is in the University Library in Wroclaw.
