Luxurious period binding in romantic style, black leather decorated. Spine divided into five fields, in two fields gilded titulature and volume numbering, in the remaining fields stylized classicist ornamentation, convex scrolls highlighted with gold scrawls; in the mirrors of both covers blind-reflected rhomboidal piston with palmettes, in the mirror of the front cover gilded initials ,,K.J''; covers closed with a striking bordure with palmettoes in the corners and a second blind embossed and gilded one, lining paper marbled.
First edition of the work of Krystyna Lach Szyrma, Polish philosopher, political activist, writer and columnist, being a colorful description of a journey through England and Scotland made in 1820-1824. The book was very popular and gave him ordinary membership in the Warsaw Society of Friends of Science.
