Military history of Poland compiled by Marian Kukiel (1885-1973) - historian, disciple of Szymon Askenase, one of the most prominent Polish Napoleonists, professor at Jagiellonian University, later general and exile politician.
The book is divided into four major periods:
- Epoch of chivalry (from the 4th century to 1506)
- Epoch of the army in enlistment (1506-1717)
- Epoch of the standing army (1717-1795)
- Epoch of the national army (from Dabrowski's Legions to the present day) - here, among others, an extensive chapter "Legions and the Polish army of the Napoleonic era (1797-1814)."
