For the Throne Historical Novel of the 17th Century by Adam Krechowiecki
Volume I-IV kpl:
The extensive whole (nearly 1,700 pages) consists of four parts: The Last Dynasty, Piast, Fame, Darkness. The plot of the tetralogy covers the period 1655-1689. In the first volume of the series, the author presents events related to the Swedish invasion of Poland (1655-1658); in the second and third volumes he describes the incidents of 1668-1672, and in the last part he shows the decline of the reign of John III Sobieski (1687-1689). The characters linking the individual plots and even the novel volumes are Ludwik Krystian Kalkstein, defender of the freedom of the Prussian states oppressed by the Elector of Brandenburg Frederick William, appearing in the three parts of the tetralogy, and Kazimierz Lyszczynski, a noble intellectual, philosopher and free-thinker. The biographies of both novel protagonists were shown against the broad background of socio-political relations of the second half of the 18th century (after Antoni Jopek, Tetralogy o Szlacheckim Filozofie i o Obrońcy Stan Pruskich)
