Aleksander Kraushar (1842-1931) - historian, lawyer and poet, born in Warsaw to a Jewish family. He was the son of Herman and Idelia (née Apte). He was educated in Warsaw schools, where he edited the newspaper "Swistek Szkolny". In 1861, he began studying law at the Central School. During the January Uprising, he joined the movement and was active in the secret press. He published in "Pravda" and "Niepodległości", among others. After returning to Warsaw, he studied law, but devoted himself to writing. He wrote poetry, but the most important strand of his work was historiography. He wrote about the history of the Jews in Poland and about important historical figures. He received the Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Cross of Independence. He died in Warsaw and was buried in the Powązki cemetery. [PSB]
