The action of the first volume of Korkozovich's novel begins in 1672.This was a special year for our country, as full of battles and skirmishes as perhaps no other until the Napoleonic era. A year in which the nobility's anarchy and the weakness of the central government led to the fall of Kamieniec and the infamous Peace of Bucharest, to a confederation in Golebiu and almost to another civil war.
Volume two of the novel "The Last Victor" depicts the events of 1673- 1696. The fate of the fictional characters here-as well as previously-is inextricably intertwined with the fate of the one and only king in our history, who, straight from the electoral field, had to move to the battlefield, postponing his coronation for almost two years, in order to struggle against the mighty Turkish-Tartar army at the head of a slender force.
