Issue I."In 1944, at the behest of the government-in-exile in London, after an unsuccessful attempt to make a film about his mission, Karski wrote 'The Secret State' (Story of a Secret State). The book was published in November 1944 in Boston and made a furor in the US. Only from it did Americans learn about the struggle and suffering of the Poles, the role of the underground state, and the extermination of the Jews. The American press evaluated the book enthusiastically. 'The Secret State' quickly became a bestseller, and its sales reached 400,000 pieces" (Wikipedia).
