The canvass of Jakub Karpinski's autobiographical book, written from December 1986 to October 1987, is the - started after March 1968 - trial of "mountaineers" convicted in 1970 for contacts with the Literary Institute in Paris and the distribution of its publications. The author, using his own example and a broad socio-historical background, creates a picture of reality, showing the functioning of the totalitarian system of the People's Republic of Poland and the oppositional activities of an intellectual (sociologist) from a family that has nurtured the canon of democratic values for generations.
