Raczynski describes the history of the work: "the manuscript of this poem, with the permission of the then Minister of Public Enlightenment [...], was handed over [in 1829] to one of the well-known national printing houses; I knew that in it the work was taken under press without delay, so that the complete edition in 1831 was to take place; I learned later that the circumstances that arose at the end of 1830 not only interrupted the further progress of printing, but that [...] the two already printed songs and the original manuscript itself were lost [...]. Meanwhile, after the passage of several years, the manuscript, together with a list of collecators [subscribers], which was thought to have been lost, came into my hands by chance. I acquired it and it became my property, which I cannot put to better use than by putting it under prassa."
