The prayer book of Varna was discovered in the collection of Oxford's Bodlejana, in 1893. The first of the Poles to take notice of it was Jozef Korzeniowski, who became so interested in the found monument that he decided to publish it in print. Korzeniowski submitted his intention to the Cracow Commission for the Study of Art History in Poland, which, at a meeting on October 26, 1893, passed a resolution on Warneńczyk's prayer book.
