After the fall of the January Uprising of 1863, the Russian authorities began to gradually blur the political differences between the Polish Kingdom and the rest of the Romanov Empire. At the beginning of 1871, the Journal began publishing exclusively in Russian, and on March 23 of that year Tsar Alexander II signed a decree abolishing the Journal of Laws.
In 56 years, 246 issues of the Journal were published, collected in 71 volumes
