Callista is a novel by English Catholic theologian, priest and writer St. John Henry Newman. It concerns the persecution of the Christian community during the reign of Emperor Decius. . The book is narrated by a Greek girl about Callista, who lives in North Africa in the 3rd century AD. Callista is a talented sculptor working for Agellius' uncle, Jucundus, who is a pagan priest. Although beautiful and talented, she is unhappy and dissatisfied with her life as a pagan artist. One day, after meeting a Christian teacher, she becomes interested in the new faith, which will change her life for the better.
