Jelenski stressed that he spent an insignificant part of his life in Poland, barely twelve years, but the language of his literary expressions was Polish, he felt himself to be a Polish writer, and he was completely imbued with Polish culture. His first and during his lifetime the only book publication in Polish, Zbiegi okoliczności (collection of sketches), came out first in the country in the second circulation of publishing in 1981, then in 1982 at the Literary Institute in Paris (expanded edition).
