An English writer spins the tale of a tragedy that took place on Laerg Island, part of the Hebrides archipelago off the northwest coast of Scotland. During the evacuation of a military base from the polar island, which is inaccessible most days of the year, a major disaster occurred. The hurricane destroyed the landing ship, ravaged the island, and people died. Responsibility for the misfortune fell on the commander. Running parallel to the described events, the life story of this commander, Major Braddock, is connected in a logical sequence with the tragic incidents on the island.
