Vol. 1 contains an extensive description of Russia's attitude towards Poland starting in the 18th century and the Republic's struggle against the destruction of the state. The uprising of 1830-1831 interested the author (1780-1835) especially from the political and diplomatic side and the realization of the idea of independence as an inalienable right of the nation.
