Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997) - Czech writer, outstanding creator of world literature of the 20th century. His books have been translated into 27 languages, and more than a dozen films have been based on his work, the best known of which is Jiří Menzl's Trains Under Special Supervision, which won the 1968 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
