Hirszfeld's biography reads like a fascinating historical novel. We become witnesses to his medical breakthroughs, which he almost paid with his life. He was a co-discoverer of the phenomenon of blood group inheritance. The nomenclature he introduced (A, B, AB, O),was adopted worldwide. He determined the Rh factor and discovered the cause of serological conflict. His second passion in life was educational activity. He raised many outstanding scientists.
