Mr. Cogito - the fifth volume of poetry by Zbigniew Herbert, published in 1974 in Warsaw by the Publishing Cooperative "Czytelnik" in an edition of 10 thousand pieces. The second national edition was prepared in 1993 by Wydawnictwo Dolnośląskie. The volume was written in 1962-1973 and is considered a breakthrough in the poet's work. The author submitted the typescript to the Czytelnik in January 1973, but there were still several months of difficult talks with the censors. The volume consists of 40 works. The character of Mr. Cogito, in the first or third person and from a position of distance, weaves ironic, sarcastic or nostalgic and tender reflections on the world, the human condition in the modern world.
