The plot of this adventure and adventurous book is set in the early 17th century. The binding character of the individual parts is a young juridical starosta, Piotr Wolski, who ex officio deals with violations of the law by arbitrary magnates and nobles known for their vagrancy. Each time Wolski is drawn into the adventures of different people, who are the actual protagonists of each part.
