Stanislaw Hempel (1892-1954) - Polish engineer, constructor, designer and builder of many innovative wooden, steel and concrete structures. In 1918 he enrolled in the department of industrial construction at the Warsaw University of Technology, graduating in 1926. From 1925 until his death, he was a researcher at the university, initially as an assistant, from 1927 as head of the department, and after the end of World War II as head of the department of wooden structures and lecturer on reinforced concrete construction theory and statics. He did not stop his teaching work even during the Nazi occupation, conducting secret teaching at the clandestine university. In 1926-1931 he also worked in the Construction Department of the Ministry of Military Affairs, and during the occupation he worked for the private company "K. Rudzki and S-ka." His apartment in Warsaw at 1 Kilińskiego Street was the concentration point of the "Wigry" battalion. After the war he was one of the most important employees of the Bureau of Reconstruction of the Capital, on behalf of which he designed from the construction side and supervised the reconstruction from war damage of many Warsaw monuments.
