"I wrote the poems contained in this volume under the impression of a hundred hours of the Israeli-Arab war. I spoke them to my country, through Radio Free Europe, and some of them I announced in print in the Polish émigré press. From the many letters that came to me from all parts of the world, from the numerous reprints and translations into other languages, especially into Jewish and Hebrew, I know and am glad that my poems did not go unnoticed."
