Double-sided manuscript on 3 pages form. 29.7x21 cm. The letter concerns, to a large extent, Vera Gran's autobiographical book "Sztafeta oszczerców", published in 1980, in which the author attempts to clarify the case, dragging on since the 1940s, of her alleged collaboration with the Gestapo. Despite multiple court settlements favorable to her, the accusations kept coming back, destroying her stage career. The author of the letter learned from Zofia R. (Romanovichova?) that Tamara Karren is carrying out her intention to review the book. She directs a personal letter to her to explain her reasons for writing the autobiography and her current state. She writes: "I am stuck up to my ears in my pain, in my tragedy. It blows me away 24 hours a day, not excluding dreams [...]. I scream! I howl without memory, without literary control. One thing is important: my scream reached most readers. It took them by the throats." And further, "I expect courage on the part of the Jews! The defense of dignity, morality and justice. Courage like the Christians had in the Dreyfus trial." Later in the letter, he straightens out misleading information about the Warsaw Ghetto orphanage (the House of Detention) he ran and the activities of Stefan Grajek, chairman of the World Federation of Jewish Veterans. Gran was outraged that he invited Mieczyslaw Moczar, a "notorious Jewizer," to Israel. Transverse fold marks, minor rubbing on folds.
Wiera Gran, or Dwojra Grinberg/Grynberg (1916-2007) - Polish singer, cabaret and film actress of Jewish descent. She also used the pseudonyms Sylvia Green, Wiera Green on Syrena Electro records and Mariol on Melodja Electro records, and was known as Vera Gran after moving to France. (Wikipedia).
