Guilherme Piso - Dutch physician and naturalist. He was a participant in an expedition in Dutch Brazil between 1637 and 1644. Together with other scientists and artists, he conducted a remarkable inventory of nature and created, as Dante Martins Teixeira comments in "Brasil Holandês", "the most important scientific work on Brazil until the 19th century." He is considered one of the founders of modern tropical medicine. His commentaries are the first detailed reports on the most common diseases, toxic effects and medicinal plants in Brazil.
