The book belongs to the world canon of military literature. The author - on the basis of his own war memoirs - presents a broad panorama of the Third Reich's changing military tactics and strategy.
Heinz Guderian was one of the leading German commanders in World War II, a general of armored forces and the architect of blitzkrieg operations in Poland, France and the USSR. He was the one who contributed to the Wehrmacht's first successes, he was the one who recognized the tank as the key weapon of the modern battlefield, he was finally gifted with intuition, speed of thought and decision-making, and the ability to sustain the spirit in his soldiers. He finally came into conflict with Hitler, though he remained loyal to him, right to the end. He himself was an unorthodox commander, opposing the concepts of traditionally minded generals.
