Legacy is a peculiar detective story composed from conversations recorded during the production of Pawel Lozinski's well-known documentary film Birthplace. Henryk Grynberg returns to his hometown years later to find out who murdered his father and what happened to his one-and-a-half-year-old brother. This investigation leads to the discovery of the shocking truth and the exhumation of the corpse. The deeply psychologically charged dialogues also reveal a wide range of moral attitudes, and the final monologue-epilogue corrects some testimonies and fills in details of the crime not revealed on film.
