The book is about Lviv, so close, so strongly present in Polish history and literature. A not easy selection from among thousands of colorful, inspiring, cheerful and sorrowful, witty and corny statements about this city makes up a peculiar panorama of Lviv history.
Karolina Grodziska, a graduate in history from Jagiellonian University, holds a doctorate in historical sciences, and is currently director of the Scientific Library of the PAU and PAN in Krakow on Slawkowska Street. She is the author of many popular biographical texts published in "Gazeta Wyborcza," works on Polish necropolises in England and Wales and guides to the cemeteries of Krakow. Her reading habit, which is, after all, to be expected of a librarian, steers her toward anthologies. The first of these was The Book of Quotations in Krakow This Enchanted City, and the current one, City Like a Diamond, is about Lviv, so close, so strongly present in Polish history and literature. A not easy selection from among thousands of colorful, inspiring, cheerful and sorrowful, witty and corny statements about this city makes up a peculiar panorama of Lviv's history.
