GOSZCZYŃSKI, Seweryn ; Malczewski, Antoni - Les Ukrainiennes de Goszczynski et Malczeski / traduites par Clémence Robert. Paris 1835, J. A. Merklein. 20 cm, pp. XXII, [2], 326, frontispiece plates with illustrations (in pagination) ; period binding : psk. with embossing and gilt on spine.
First French translation. "Castle of Canova" by Seweryn Goszczynski and "Maria" by Antoni Malczewski. The introduction counts the above-mentioned authors (along with Adam Mickiewicz and Józef Bohdan Zaleski) among the most important representatives of Polish poetry of the modern era (aujourd'hui), just as Schiller and Goethe were important for German literature. Soiling of the covers, pale fading in places, non-intensive spotting on k., errors in the initial pagination, good condition, very nice spine. Prow. : (1) Sanguszko Library in Gumniska (stamp. with initials W[ładysław?] X. S.). (2) Secured Book Collection in Stalinogrod (stamp.). Very rare.
