GLIWA Stanislaw (1910-1986) - 6th Armored Regiment "Children of Lviv" in Piedimonte.
Linocut on ark. 34,6x24,6 cm. Work signed on the plate "S. Gliwa". Battle scene from the battle for Monte Cassino. Sheet in wrapping paper envelope, title handwritten on envelope with note "Linocut 1944", On back of sheet handwritten title in pencil in slightly altered wording. Tightly taped envelope tears, print in very good condition.
Stanislaw Gliwa (1910-1986) - artist-printer, graphic designer, illustrator, creator and owner of "Officina Typographica". Student of H. Uziembła and S. Szukalski, member of the Horned Heart Strain; during the war a prisoner of Soviet gulags, later a soldier of the Anders Army. He graphically designed the 1st and 3rd volumes of M. Wańkowicz's work "Monte Cassino" (1945-1947), designed the emblem of the Literary Institute (Ionian column). In the 1950s he set up his own printing and bindery in Britain, and published low-volume bibliophilic prints often illustrated by him.
