Michał GIRDWOYŃ [1841-1924] Polish beekeeper and ichthyologist. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and the Sorbonne in Paris, among others. His work Anatomy of a Bee [Paris 1875] was awarded a medal from the Cracow Society and a medal of merit at the Universal Exhibition in Vienna. In 1878, he became a member of the French Academy.
Original publisher's booklet cover preserved. Entirely bound in hardback, ppb, on the inside front pastedown an ex-libris with the Latin maxim "Ad majorem scienthae gloriam" [For the greater glory of science]. Pages with text clean, in good condition, boards - partially - with traces of staining on back and edges, otherwise more than good condition.
