Historja powstania narodu polskiego w 1861-1864 r. tom II
by Agaton Giller
Agaton Giller (1831-1887) - Polish journalist and writer, conspirator and independence activist, member and chairman of the National Government (1863). His most important work was "Historja powstania narodu polskiego"(1867- 1871). Due to lung disease, he published only four volumes out of a planned ten. This work became a great apologia for the insurrectionary deed, cultivating the traditions of national independence uprisings and for many years perpetuated in the consciousness of contemporaries a peculiar insurrectionary legend. Written brilliantly, in vivid language , it showed many important details and is to this day, despite the author's undoubted bias, an excellent source for the history of the 1863 uprising (after J. Szczerbiński, Man of his time (Agaton Giller)")
